This is a list of the recommended contents of an extravasation kit for the immediate management of intravenous anti-cancer therapies and contrast media extravasation.

An emergency extravasation kit should be readily accessible to minimise the response time for extravasation or a suspected extravasation.

Extravasation kit

Recommended contents:

  • instructions for use
  • 3 x 10 mL syringes
  • 3 x 5 mL syringes
  • blunt drawing up needles
  • 4 x 25 or 27 gauge needles
  • 4 x 5 mL sterile water for injection
  • 4 x 10 mL sodium chloride 0.9%
  • 2 x 20 mL dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) 99% solution
  • glass dropper or cotton buds/swab sticks for DMSO 99% solution application
  • 2 x vials hyaluronidase 1500 International Units
  • gauze squares (assortment of sizes)
  • chemoprotectant gloves (assortment of sizes)
  • alcohol wipes
  • 2 hot packs for warm compresses
  • 2 cold packs for cold compresses
  • 2 x disposable paper tape measure
  • permanent marker pen

Regularly check all contents for packaging integrity and expiry dates. Replace used and expired items.
