It is recommended that ß-hCG is monitored as per published guidelines and in conjunction with a gestational trophoblastic disease speciality unit or molar registry if available.
The Charing Cross monitoring recommendations are as follows: Measure ß-hCG levels twice a week during treatment until levels become normal then check weekly until treatment stops. When treatment is completed, surveillance involves checking ß-hCG levels every 2 weeks for 1 year, then every 4 weeks for 1 year, then every 8 weeks for 1 year, then every 3 months for 1 year, then every 4 months for 1 year then continue with 6 monthly checks.
The ASCO recommendations are as follows: Measure ß-hCG levels in the blood typically every 1 to 2 weeks until hormone level is normal for 3 tests in a row. After that ß-hCG should be monitored every month for the first year, every 4 months for the second year, then once a year for the third and fourth years.
