eviQ Reference Committees

The hybrid reference committee meetings (RCMs) held in October 2023 were immensely successful, and we thank everyone for your participation.

Due to recently updated travel policies and guidelines, the Cancer Institute NSW is no longer able to fund travel and accommodation costs for RCM attendees in 2024. Therefore, eviQ RCMs will follow a virtual meeting format for now.

We remain confident that the virtual meeting format will continue to be productive and deliver a positive experience for our members. eviQ will continue to review how we manage RCMs into the future.

For more detail refer to the Terms of Reference for eviQ Reference Committees.

eviQ works with clinical expert groups (eviQ reference committees) to develop and review the treatment protocols and clinical content available on eviQ.

There are seven eviQ reference committee groups that meet face-to-face throughout the year:

  • cancer genetics
  • paediatric cancer genetics
  • blood and marrow transplant
  • cellular therapies
  • haematology
  • medical oncology
  • radiation oncology

Each group is chaired by practising clinicians. Chairs and co-chairs are appointed for a 2 year term, with a maximum combined term as co-chair and chair of 4 years.

Membership to these groups is open to all practising medical clinicians (registrar to senior consultant), within these specialty areas from Australia and New Zealand. Membership is reviewed every two years. Cancer genetics reference committees have specific eligibility criteria.

For nurses, pharmacists and radiation oncology allied health professionals please see below for information on our virtual reference committee groups.

Reference Committee Meetings

Each group meets a number of times per year to review and discuss the content provided on eviQ, based on current literature available at the time. Meetings are generally focused on specific tumour groups or clinical topics.

Each meeting aims to bring together clinicians with relevant clinical expertise in the specific tumour group with a broad range of experience from registrar to senior consultant and experts in the field. Meetings aim to be representative of all Australian states and territories and metro and regional centres. Multidisciplinary expertise is included where required.

eviQ reference committee meetings provide an opportunity for critical appraisal of the evidence supporting the treatment protocols. During these meetings protocols are presented by a lead clinician, discussed by the committee and consensus agreement is reached by the reference committee. Reference committee members donate their time to participate in these meetings.

Additional reference committee meetings may be conducted throughout the year, as required.

Reference Committee homepages

Each reference committee has a dedicated homepage on the eviQ website that can only be accessed by members, with the purpose of providing information about reference committee meetings. All details and documents for upcoming meetings are available from these homepages.

To access your reference committee homepage, login to the eviQ website, then click on the dropdown next to your name in the top right corner of the website.

Advanced Trainee Program

Both the Medial Oncology and Radiation Oncology Reference Committees have Advanced Trainee programs that participate as part of the larger reference committee group. Trainees are matched with supervisors to develop and review treatment protocols, then present at eviQ reference committee meetings.

Partnerships with the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA), Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) advanced trainee committee, allow trainees to earn CPD points by contributing to this process.

Nursing, Pharmacy and Radiation Oncology Allied Health Reference Committees

The Nursing, Pharmacy and Radiation Oncology Allied Health Reference Committees are virtual groups with the aim to assist in the review and development of eviQ clinical resources, assessment tools, clinical procedures, and patient and carer information.

Membership is open to all currently practising nurses, pharmacists and radiation oncology allied health professionals working in the field of cancer from Australia and New Zealand. Membership is reviewed every two years.

Documents available for review or development are posted on each reference committee homepage and are also emailed to members.
