This calculator estimates an individual’s glomerular filtration rate (GFR) using serum creatinine, age and sex in the Chronic Kidney Disease – Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) 2009 equation 1 (see Equations section below).

It is expressed as mL/min/1.73 m2 (indexed to a standardised body surface area [BSA] of 1.73 m2).

Use of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) calculated using the CKD-EPI 2009 equation (eGFRCKD-EPI) is recommended by the International Consensus Guideline in Anticancer Drug Dosing in Kidney Dysfunction (ADDIKD) and endorsed by international nephrology groups, for assessment of kidney function except when a directly measured GFR* is clinically necessary.
*directly measured GFR (mGFR) refers to a direct measurement of the clearance of exogenous markers such as  iohexol, iothalamate, 51Cr-EDTA or 99mTc-DTPA and is expressed in mL/min.
